Rwandan Traditional & Contemporary Dances with Isaac Gasangwa (Youth ages 7- 15 years old)
The Betty Oliphant Theatre’s - Windborne Studio
Toronto, M4Y2G6
How to get there
Experience a vibrant fusion of heritage and innovation through Rwandan Traditional and Contemporary Dance. Led by Isaac Gasangwa (IZO), this workshop offers a deep dive into the soul of Rwandan culture. Participants will master iconic styles such as Ikinimba, a rhythmic "warrior dance" characterized by powerful footwork, and Umushayayo, a graceful, flowing dance inspired by the movements of majestic long-horned cattle. Beyond traditional forms, the sessions bridge the gap to modern expression by integrating Afrobeats and contemporary techniques, focusing on storytelling, high-energy coordination, and communal joy.
*Please note that the Windborne Studio, where the workshop will be held, is not fully accessible for individuals with mobility-related accessibility needs due to stairs.
